First pictures of a birth taking place

Sussex heifer is bornTwo more Sussex calves were born at Upper Woodhill Farm last night, a heifer calf and a bull calf. The bull calf needed a little assistance but the heifer had a natural birth. Both are doing well.

For the first time we are able to bring you a series of pictures showing the full birth – Click here.

Sussex breed cattle farmer Andrew Cameron would like to name the heifer (seen in these pictures) Lola but has agreed to let visitors to this site suggest a name. Andrew is naming all the heifers born into the Woodhill herd with names starting with the letter ‘L’ so please send us your suggestions.

Following the results of our Poll Andrew will not be naming the bull calves – 44% of you were in favour of calling the first bull calf to be born ‘Lucky’ however 56% of you agreed with Andrew that they should not be named. It is now being referred to as the bull calf formally known as ‘Lucky’ – I suspect it will stick!
