Shamley Green Village Fete 2010
If you weren’t lucky enough to be in South Africa to see England play USA in the World Cup today then Shamley Green was the place to be. The green was alive with people having fun this afternoon as hundreds descended on the Surrey village for the annual Village Fete and Dog Show.
The Shamley Green Fete was opened at 1pm this afternoon by the Shamley Green ‘Calendar Boys’ – Members of the cricket club who have posed naked for their 2011 Shamley Green Cricket Club Calendar. Proceeds from sales of the calendar go towards the club’s running costs, Chase and other local charities. If you were not able to get one this afternoon then they are available from the village shop and The Red Lion.
Besides buying calendars of naked men, there was lots to do at the Fete. The Dog Show attracted a huge number of entries, there was skittles, bowling, children’s races and a whole host of side shows and stalls, including an excellent plant stall from the Shamley Green Gardening Club.
The hog roast and beer tent were typically busy and there were tasty home made cakes in the Arbuthnot Hall.
