St Luke’s Little Summer

Autunm HarvestThis weekend has been glorious with temperatures here in the Surrey Hills into the early twenties. Despite what you might think, it isn’t unusual to get a few last days of summer in October. Ask any farmer and they will tell you that we can expect to see a spell of good weather around St Luke’s day, which falls on the 18th October.

During a wet Autumn, like the one we have experienced this year, St Luke’s Little Summer often offers a few days respite so that a late harvest can be finished. As if to prove the point the tractors around us have been hard at work today.

OK so I know that it is a little early but weather lore is not an exact science. What is consistent, however, is that the blinking lawn mower will never start in October…
